[ Oct.2015 ] The next place we visited during our Amalfi Coast tour was Amalfi itself.
This town became the first city-state in the 7th century. In the 11th century, the Normans defeated them and they lost their independence.
Venice and Genoa are famous as the city-states and I did not know Amalfi was the first.
In 1343, they suffered a lot due to a tsunami and since then it has not been more than a local city.
The main attraction here is the cathedral.
To enter you have to climb up 65 steps.
It was built in the 11th century, but they have since expanded and renovated it many times. Therefore, there is a mixture of many different architectural styles.
It was the third time for me to visit here, but I was surprised to see how colourful this cathedral was.
I thought that the black and white marbles were more dominant.
This time we did not go in there, but walked around the town.
It was just the time that the schools finished and many children flooded like a tsunami from the back of the town.
