[ Feb.2016 ] It was a fine day on our second day in Valencia, Spain.
When we traveled from the airport to the hotel by taxi the night before, I thought the town was very similar to ones in Italy, but when we saw the buildings under the sun, the difference was obvious.
The buildings are more decorative and gaudy.
I wondered if this was something to do with the Islamic rule earlier in the history.
The first destination on the day was Central Market.
It is a huge indoor food market of 8160 square metres.
After seeing vegetables and meat, we came to the fish market.
This reminded me of the one in Santiago, Chile, but I think this was bigger and livelier.
Many tourists were there, but I saw a local elderly couple choosing their purchases, too.
While I was looking at those fresh foods, I became hungry, though I was not very well that morning after too much eating and drinking the night before.
There was a counter where people were eating, which was very attractive, but the queue was so long that we had to give up.
This place started as an open air market in 1839.
The current design was chosen in a 1910 competition.
The completion was 1928.
It is a lovely Art Nouveau building made of steel, glass and ceramics.
Currently there are about 400 traders in it and to my surprise, they do home delivery, too.
