[Dec. 2024] This holiday in Sorrento, southern Italy, was over the New Year’s holiday, so just to be safe, we made reservations in advance for lunch on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
However, on the 24th, we found out that the restaurant we had reserved, Le Tre Arcate, was not in Sorrento city, but in another town called Piano di Sorrento.
Although we got a bit panicked, Piano di Sorrento turned out only the second train station from Sorrento Station.
So it wasn’t a big deal for us who were staying near the railway station.
The restaurant wasn’t far from the station, but it was very windy and cold, and it was hard to walk around.
Although it was lunch, I wore a dress because this was Christmas dinner for us, but when we arrived at the restaurant, it was so casual that we wondered, “Is this really the place?”
It had an atmosphere that was just like a cafe.
Both my husband and I were quite disappointed.
Piano di Sorrento is not a tourist destination, so all the customers were locals.
It was the kind of restaurant where you’d go for a quick pizza in casual clothes.
However, the separate room shown on the internet looked a little more stately, but it was closed during the day.
Still, the food was good.
In particular, the octopus salad we shared as a starter was exquisite, with octopus on top of the local vegetable friarielli mixed with raisins, pine nuts, olives, etc.
The presentation was also stylish.
For my main course, I had Filletto Rombo.
Rombo is a word that refers to flounder or sole, but this fish was fatty and delicious.
There was mashed potatoes underneath.
My husband’s main course was called Gnocchi Baby.
It was green, covered in green sauce (broccoli cream sauce) and mixed with sun-dried tomatoes, nuts, small sausages and cheese.
It was definitely elaborate.
For dessert, my husband had baba, and I had the recommended cassata.
Apparently the baba had just the right amount of rum.
My cassata was too sweet, though, and I couldn’t finish it.
All together, with a carafe of white wine, salad and coffee came to €84.
As it was outside the tourist area, it was very reasonable.
If only the atmosphere had been a little more luxurious, I would have been very satisfied.
