[ Sept.2014 ] Nida is the main town in Curonian Spit in Lithuania which is listed as a World Heritage.
At the south end of the town there is a dune which goes on to the south for 7 kilometres into Russia, which they say the largest dune in Europe.
Unfortunately I have not been to Tottori Sand Dune in Japan, so I cannot compare, which is a shame.
Anyway, here it is lovely to see the pale blue-green sea beyond the sand.
When I looked inland, there was the pine forest.
The highest point of this dune is about 52 metres and here we found a fine sundial. Apparently it was built in 1995, but the obelisk in the centre was broken because of a hurricane in 1999.
What we saw was the one which was repaired.
There are other dunes in Curonian Spit and the highest is 60 metres.
