[ Apr.2013 ] When you travel along the coast of Puglia, southern Italy, you will notice half broken towers dotted around.
These are called Saracen Towers and they are watchtowers againt Saracens attack coming from the sea.
i looked up and found that most of them were built in the 15th-16th century.
So the Saracens here must mean Ottoman Turkey.
Each tower was built so that the watchmen of the next tower could see it.
This kind of historical buildings are not looked after and they seem to let them weather in Puglia, which makes some atmospheric views matching the surrounding nature.
