Surprised at the magnificent museum

[ Nov.2014 ] When we went up the slopes in Coimbra in Portugal, the rain started.

During this holiday, the weather was changeable all the time.

We found a museum there, so we went in basically to take shelter from the rain.

We were not expecting anything, but got surprised as this Museu Nacional De Machado De Castro was magnificent.

The stuff pointed the underground first, so we went down there to see the Roman ruin itself.

This museum was on the Roman cryptoporticus.

Apparently there used to be the forum here in Roman era when they called Coimbra “Aeminium” .

After centuries later, the building was the palace of Bishop in Coimbra and then in 1913, they made it as a museum.

Sculptures, paintings, treasures and so on from 1st to 17th century were there.

One of the exhibits were a chapel.

This photo is a part of “The Last Supper” made of terra cotta.

The name of the museum, Machado De Castro came from a sculptor, born in this city in the 18th century.
