Palace or grave?

[ Jan.2015 ] We also went to the mausoleum of Tu Duc, the fourth emperor in the Ngyen Dinasty in Hue in Vietnam.

It is a mausoleum, but there were buildings like a palace and a huge garden.

This place was built in 1864-67, but Tu Duc’s reign was from 1848 to 1883, so he built it while he was alive.

In fact he designed it himself and lived here, too.

This emperor apparently had more than 100 wives and corcubines, but he was a sterile man, so did not have any direct offsprings.

Maybe that is why he had so many women.

Although he made his gorgeous grave himself, in the end his body was not buried here, but somewhere secret with his treasures.

And to keep the secret, 200 people who were involved in burying him were all killed.

This mausoleum was very badly damaged by US force in 1968, so it is still on the way to be restored.

The wars are really barbaric acts, aren’t they.
